Medium paper

Opal’s corrugating medium papers provide the internal fluted structure that delivers strength, cushioning, and rigidity in corrugated packaging. Manufactured at our Australian mills, these grades are designed to balance performance, runnability, and cost efficiency, while meeting the needs of diverse packaging environments — from standard FMCG cartons to heavy‑duty bulk bins.

Medium Paper

Product description

Our medium range includes recycled grades for everyday applications, Duraflute for high‑performance conditions such as cold chain and humidity exposure, and semi‑chemical (NSSC) grades for maximum stacking performance. All are 100% recyclable and manufactured to exacting specifications for uniformity and converting efficiency.

Recycled Medium (Fluting Medium)

Grammage: 90, 112, 120, 135, 165 g/m²

  • Made from 100% recycled fibre (minimum 70% OCC).
  • High cleanliness and consistent formation.
  • Designed for ambient/dry conditions and single‑use applications.
  • Applications: Shelf‑ready packaging, FMCG, online retail, and resellers.
Duraflute Medium

Grammage: 135, 165, 185 g/m²

  • Superior strength in ambient and high‑humidity conditions compared to standard recycled medium.
  • A 100% recycled fibre which is an alternative to virgin fibre semi‑chemical mediums.
  • Excellent performance in tensile, ring crush, creep, internal bond strength, Concora, containment, and hardness.
  • Applications: Fruit and produce field packing, wax replacement, bulk bins, cold chain, heavy‑duty packaging.

Corrugating medium paper for strong, lightweight packaging

Opal’s medium paper range underpins the strength and economy of corrugated packaging. Basis weights from 112 gsm to 170 gsm cover heavy-duty pallets through to retail-ready display packs. High CMT and SCT values preserve box compression under stacking, while controlled moisture keeps corrugators running flat and fast. With local technical support and rapid delivery across Australia and New Zealand, Opal helps converters boost board performance and minimise downtime.
