Our environmental sustainability pillars
Drive business resilience through environmental stewardship, decarbonisation, and circularity.
Drive business resilience through environmental stewardship, decarbonisation, and circularity.
8.2% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 operational emissions compared to 2024
580,000+ tonnes of waste paper collected for recycling
Developed a dedicated Water Sustainability Strategy
Developed a new Circular Resource Strategy
Completed an inventory of Opal’s emission footprint including Scope 3 emissions
100% of the paper produced at the Maryvale and Botany Mills in 2025 was eligible to be sold as FSC® certified.
We are driving energy efficiency, transitioning to renewable sources of thermal energy, and reducing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Proactive decarbonisation builds resilience against escalating climate risks and directly supports our customers in achieving their net-zero targets.
Circularity is our guiding operational engine. We are dedicated to minimising waste in our operations, working with our supply chain to improve resource efficiency, keeping fibre in circulation for longer, and diverting valuable resources from landfill to drive cost efficiencies and support Australia’s circular economy.
We are committed to responsible water withdrawal, wastewater management and water stewardship. By optimising our water-intensive manufacturing processes, we help protect local ecosystems, manage operational costs and safeguard water security for our surrounding communities.
We safeguard natural ecosystems by preferentially procuring certified wood fibre. Upholding rigorous forestry standards helps to prevent deforestation and protects regional biodiversity.
